Net Zero
What is Net Zero?
Net Zero means achieving a balance between the amount of greenhouse gases produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere.
In a nutshell, it is about reducing emissions as much as possible and then offsetting any remaining emissions through methods such as carbon capture or planting trees - with the aim of mitigating the effects of climate change.
Why Net Zero?
The UK Government has set the target of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
This supports the Paris Agreement aim to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Many organisations choose to set earlier targets (e.g. 2030 - 2040) to demonstrate their ambition to achieve this earlier.
