Who Needs a DEC?
Public buildings (or those occupied by public authorities) in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland:
With a floor area over 250 m², and that are frequently visited by the public.
A Display Energy Certificate shows the actual energy usage of a building (based on metered consumption), rather than theoretical efficiency like an EPC. It's intended to promote energy efficiency in public buildings.
Buildings are rated from A to G (A = most efficient, G = least efficient) and contain an Advisory Report suggesting energy-saving measures.
They must be displayed in a prominent place (e.g. reception area) where the public can see it.
A DEC is only valid for 12 months, upon which it needs to be renewed.
